Who Are We and Why Do We Do It?
Active Edge Training is the creation of David Hancock a teacher and former soldier. Steve Gilbert B.Eng(Hons), FIMarE, QTS, Commander Royal Navy (Retired)
During my 28 year service as a Royal Navy Officer, I led engineering teams to ensure operational readiness of warships, material and training for front line operations, including the Falklands and Gulf War 1 conflicts. Through this, I developed a keen appreciation of the teamwork, communication, resilience and problem-solving skills required to meet complex and fast-changing challenges. I feel that these skills were also vital during my subsequent career as a primary Key Stage 2 teacher, where my previous experiences added a real-world dimension to my practice. More than ever, I believe young people need to experience challenges to prepare them for later life.
The leadership, team-building and problem-solving experiences that the Active Edge Training programme provides is especially valid in the primary learning environment in preparing young people for their secondary learning and life outside of school.
Steve is the Business Development Manager of Active Edge Training and also works in schools as an instructor.
